Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove the uterus and cervix. In the Total Abdominal hysterectomy (TAH), the incision is made in the abdomen, specifically in the abdominal wall. The incision is approximately 5 inches long and allows access to the uterus by cutting through the skin and underlying tissue. This incision can be either horizontal, known as a bikini-line incision, which runs across the top of the pubic bone, or vertical, running from just above the pubic bone to just below the navel. This procedure is performed when the surgeon requires a complete and unobstructed view of the uterus and surrounding organs.
