Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Ltd has been a pioneer in case of Lap and General Surgery. It is equipped with state of the art technology to perform the latest surgical treatment in all major disciplines, be it Abdominal Surgeries, Gynaecology, Urology, Orthopaedics and many more.
Laparoscopic surgery involves inserting a tiny telescope connected to a camera called a laparoscope through a small incision in the abdomen so that the internal organs can be seen.
Advantages of Laparoscopic Surgery
- Better view of organs
- Small incision
- Less blood loss and less pain
- Less medications
- Shorter hospital stay
- Quick recovery (fewer complications)
Role of Laparoscopy in Colorectal Disorder
Virtually all patients who need colorectal operations are candidates for laparoscopy due to the above advantages. There are a few patients, however, who require the open procedure.
Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia repair
Normally a Laparoscopic hernia repair is stronger than a repair performed traditionally, hence the hernia is less likely to recur. In fact, patients with a recurring hernia may find the Laparoscopic approach necessary to permanently eliminate ruptures in that area of the abdomen.
Laparoscopic Gallbladder removal (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy) Treating Gallbladder problems
Laparoscopic surgery of the Gall bladder is now a well-established and highly successful procedure. Open surgeries for Gall bladder are only performed if Lap Surgery fails or cannot be performed due to some specific condition of the patient.
Laparoscopy in Gynaecology
With an increased acceptance of Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic access for major surgical procedures in Gynaecological practice we at Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital Ltd have arranged for a state of art Microsurgery center for all Gynaecological surgeries.
Role of Laparoscopy in removal of Uterine Fibroids
Fibroid tumors can often be removed in a surgical procedure called a laparoscopic myomectomy. For patients who are candidates, this surgical approach allows a woman to avoid a large incision in her abdomen, which is the way traditional myomectomies are performed.
Investigation of infertility, Pelvic & other pelvic pathology is incomplete without a laparoscopy.
Role in Infertility
Treatment of Fallopian tube Disease, tubal microsurgery for blocked tubes can be performed by Laparoscopy.
Role in treatment in Ovarian cysts
For women who suffer from ovarian cysts, surgical options include removal of the cyst or in more advanced cases the removal of one or both ovaries. More than 90% of benign ovarian cysts can be removed with laparoscopic cystectomy, a minimally invasive procedure.
Role in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCO
Ovarian drilling in PCO is very helpful procedure for achieving ovulation.
Hysterectomy or the Removal of the Uterus – A newer technique – Laparoscopy Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH)
If you are told that you have to undergo a hysterectomy, a fairly new technique called a laparoscopic hysterectomy can shorten your hospital stay and recovery time by half, compared to a traditional hysterectomy.
Role in Endometriosis
Pelvic endometriosis resistant to medical treatment or with Endometrium can be managed by Laparoscopic surgery.
Hence, Laparoscopy is the surgical treatment of choice for diagnosing and treating endometriosis.
Role in Ectopic Pregnancy
Laparoscopic Salpingectomy or Salpingostomy both can be performed in Ectopic pregnancy provided the patient is not in shock.
