DR. Kalyan Kumar Sarkar MBBS, MS, FRCSED was born in Kolkata in 1956. His high school and medical education was in Kolakta with an academic career second to none. His subsequently trained in the UK in the Whipps Cross University Hospital, London and specialised in Urological surgery. He has been in independant urological practice from December 1993 in Kolkata. His principal professional affiliations in the city of Kolkata are presently with Woodlands Hospital, Park Clinic, and RKM Seva pratisthan. In the past he has been associated with Wockhardt Hospitals, Cancer Centre and welfare Home, Thakurpukur, Sri Aurobinda Seva Kendra, Kolkata, and AMRI Hospoitals, Dhakuria. He is general urologist with special interest in endourology , uro-oncology and functional and reconstructive urology. He has been an author of multiple academic publications in peer reviewed journals, and has delivered more than 200 invited lectures and several orations. He developed laser prostate surgery in Woodlands jospital, organised several academic workshops and has been a Principal Investigator in Phase 2 and 3 international trials on advanced prostate cancer and bladder cancer. He developed a multidisciplinary uro-oncology department at AMRI Hospitals Dhakuria. He is a teacher in the successful DNB Urology program of the RKM Seva Prathisthan, Kolakta. A member of various national and international urological academic soceities, he has been past President and Secretary of Bengal Urological Soceity and is now President, East Zone Section, Urological Soceity of India, and member of the Council, Urological Soceity of India. He has contributed with passion and commitment to academic activities in the city, state, zone and country. He has won several Rotary awards for community medical service.
